We've now been in Vanuatu for our first week and had some interesting experiences. We were really hanging out for some poached eggs and bought three at a local store. When we went to cook them we were surprised at how hard the shells were and then even more surprised when we finally got through the shell to find a hard boiled egg. We have learned to ask for raw eggs! Last night we went to a French restaurant and ordered flying fox expecting to have "bat" meat in a stew - oh no ...what we got was the whole animal complete with eyes, teeth etc staring up at us from the plate. An interesting meal that attracted quite a lot of attention from other customers but not one we will repeat. We have finished our Bislama lessons, (about 2 yrs too soon I think) and we have been inficting our efforts on the local population with quite pleasing results. Really looking forward to getting to Malekula tomorrow although we are also a bit nervous about the unknown.
